This six-day workshop, spread over three weekend modules, offers the student a complete introduction to working with a type of energy to be found in the physical body, known as subtle energy.

Subtle energy is the force that lies between the non-physical and the physical in the body; between the mind and the body. It gives form to our thoughts, our feelings and our emotions, giving rise to bodily, physical action and reaction.

Subtle energy takes multiple form, from its most subtle, least physical forms, such as those experienced in the almost dream-like states of deep meditation, through the emotional forms such as bliss, love, joy, happiness, anger, fear or shame, to the mental forms of thought, belief, ambition and drive, to the energies we absorb from other people, such as our family members, friends, lovers or employers; the energies we experience during specific times in our lives, such as our childhood, or from certain key events that happen to us in life, such as a trauma, shock or fright.

There are many different types of subtle energy, yet each one has a specific property or characteristic, such as hot or cold, heavy or light, energizing or tiring and is of a certain element, such as air or water, and each one causes a specific physical manifestation when present in the body.

For example, the emotional energy of anger, which is air in element, causes dryness in the body, causing specific muscles to stiffen and harden, in this instance, the trapezius and jaw muscles, whereas the energy of love creates warmth, softness and openness.

For our physical bodies to be healthy and happy, there needs to be a state of balance in the subtle energies within our energy system. A little bit of everything, as it were. A little bit of hard, a little bit of soft. A little bit of hot, a little bit of cold. An imbalance in subtle energy, for example in having too little of one type of energy and too much of another, causes a parallel imbalance in the physical condition of the body. For example, not enough love and too much fear creates a physical body in which there is not enough warmth and softness and too much cold, heaviness, tiredness and contraction.

By understanding this process, and the connection between subtle energy and the physical body, the student learns that in massage, for instance, when trying to treat a client with an imbalance in subtle energy, such as in the manifestation of stiffness or hardness in the muscles, it is much more effective to treat the imbalance of energy in the client than it is to treat them with a school-taught basic massage routine, which does not normally address the client’s imbalance in their subtle energy.

The workshop examines in full the origins and effects of seven different types of subtle energy:
Emotional energy.
Mental energy.
Sexual energy.
Spiritual energy.
Environmental energy.
Energy from other people.
Ancestral/Inherited energy.

Interested students are advised to take all three weekend modules, but it is also possible to attend one or two modules instead.

Module One.
An Introduction to Energy.
What is subtle energy?
What does it feel like?
How does it affect the body?
Learning to tune-into and to feel subtle energy in the body of your massage client.

Module Two.
Learning to feel energy with your intuition and to trust your intuition.
Some energy you can physically feel in your client’s body with your hands and some you can’t.
Sometimes when you touch your client’s body, your touch is telling you one thing, but your intuition is telling you something else.
Is it real, or are you imagining it? Can you trust it?
Is what you feel coming from you or is it coming from your client.
In this module, we transition your massage skills from touch to intuition, by altering the balance of subtle energy within your own energy system towards the intuitive.

Module Three.
Healing with Energy.
We look at a range of twenty specific physical bodily conditions which are caused by imbalances in subtle energy and we show you how to heal or release each one by using specific types of energy in your touch when treating them.
The conditions include:
Tight ankles.
Weak knees.
Closed hips.
Tight hamstrings.
Weak lower back.
Tight mid-back.
Tightness and stiffness in the shoulders.
Pain and weakness in the arms.
Inflammation and pain in the neck.
